FAQs

What is autism?

Autism is a lifelong developmental condition that affects, among other things, the way an individual relates to his or her environment and their interaction with other people.

The word ‘spectrum’ describes the range of difficulties that people on the autism spectrum may experience and the degree to which they may be affected. Some people may be able to live relatively normal lives, while others may have accompanying learning challenges and require continued specialist support.

The main areas of difficulty are in social communication, social interaction and restricted or repetitive behaviours and interests.

An estimated 1 in every 70 people in Australia is on the autism spectrum. Along with their families, this means autism is a part of daily life for over one million Australians.

Where are the Aspect schools and satellite classes?

Aspect currently has 9 autism-specific independent schools: 8 in NSW and one in South Australia, and just over 100 satellite classes (autism-specific classes located in mainstream schools) across Australia, catering to over 1000 students.

See our full list of schools and classes here.

How can I learn more about the schools?

Please view our website: https://www.autismspectrum.org.au/school/aspect-schools

Will I be sent the resource I donate?

No, items donated will go to the schools and satellite classes.

Where does my money go?

100% of funds raised and resources purchased for the Stock a School for autism campaign will go directly to our Aspect schools and satellite classes, who will use the money to purchase the items most needed to support their individual students.  This will ensure that schools who already have a trampoline, for instance, don’t receive two or three more.

Is my purchase tax deductible?

All purchases over $2 are tax deductible.

Can I buy multiple school items?

Yes, we encourage the purchase of multiple items because the need for these resources is ongoing. We want to make sure that every student has access to the resources they need to reach their full potential.

Will my message be passed onto the schools?

Yes, we’ll share all of your positive messages with the schools, students and teachers. To view all the messages, go to: https://stockaschool.org.au/message-wall/
